Michael Thomas Faler

July 30, 1957 — July 19, 2017

Michael Thomas Faler was simultaneously making a quadruple batch of Cincinnati chili, doing laundry, and painting the exterior of his oldest daughter's house when he died suddenly on July 19th, 2017 in Casper, Wyoming at the age of 59.

Mike was very happy in the days leading up to his death. He fixed a leak in an old car, discovered Great Value Jalapeño Cheese Puffs, learned how to rough-in electrical wiring, went to his first rodeo, drank a variety of IPAs, walked the dogs at the park and played fetch with them in the river, baked cinnamon rolls and thin crust pizza from scratch, made plans to attend a concert with his wife, complained only minimally about taxes, and reviewed his eBay Watch List-- which included an early '90s Toyota Previa-- all while having a heart attack.

Although Costco Wholesale Corporation's stock price (NASDAQ: COST) has been able to recover slightly since the news of "Duke Bargain-hunter's" death, his loss has been felt across the world; from Ohio, where he worked at Rockwell Automation for 17 years; to India, where he loved to visit family and coworkers, immerse himself in Indian culture, and eat with his hands; to Wyoming, where at least a dozen people and two mutts looked forward to his cooking and company each visit.

Mike, an organ donor, left behind super-mom Susan, his wife of 31 years; his daughter Katelynd, an economist, and her husband Rahul, an engineer ("at least someone in the family is an engineer!"); his daughter Madeline, a multilingual musician and teacher; his son Eric, a foodie and United States Air Force plane mechanic; and his son Michael, a freshly graduated (and employed!) RN and cat lover.

Mike's unexpected passing leaves open the debate about whether or not the phrases "power to the people", "stick it to the man", and "that's un-American" can be overused, but reminds us all to brush up on our CPR skills and appreciate "the scenic route" on family road trips. All are welcome to join in sharing memories at a gathering to remember Mike that will take place at Corrigan Craciun Funeral Home at 20820 Lorain Road, Fairview Park, Ohio 44126 on Saturday, July 29 from 2-4pm, with a reception to follow at the family's home at 21741 Overlook Drive, Fairview Park, Ohio 44126.
