Melissa Marie Folz (Misty) was born 21 June 1968, in Virginia, Minnesota. She was adopted at the age of 3 by Delbert and Goldie Folz of Benson, MN. She grew up with her two adopted brothers, Delmon and Lawrence. She attended school in Benson. She went to St. Mark's Lutheran Church until she moved from MN. She moved so frequently that her family lost track of her whereabouts until her death in Casper, WY February 11, 2021. Melissa lived in Nevada, Florida, S.C. and WY, to name a few states. She was employed as a nanny & a cook; she also held various jobs in the National Parks and tourism industry. She worked in the ski industry in Jackson and possibly other ski areas. After Jackson, Melissa found refuge at the Rahab House in Myrtle Beach, SC, making close friends and confidants.
In 2015, Melissa moved to Casper. She joined Grace Reformed Evangelical Presbyterian Church in May 2016 and was a member until her death. She considered the members her friends and family, especially the ladies in her Bible study group. She loved being a part of church activities when she was able, from women's retreats to making treats for the fellowship hour. She was to have been a volunteer in the AWANA children's ministry but her health prevented her from continuing. Melissa earned her GED diploma in May 2016 at Casper College. Her desire was to continue at Casper College, possibly in Wildlife Management. She loved animals and the outdoors, especially the mountains. As her health declined, she had to postpone college plans.
Melissa enjoyed pro football (the Patriots!), and often wore her pom pom-topped Patriots ski hat to church on a snowy morning. She liked crafting, watching movies at home, and reading. Later, when her vision failed, she enjoyed library audio books. Misty was scheduled for cataract surgery in March and looked forward to being able to see wildlife on Casper Mt. She loved the mountains and dreamed of being free of her wheelchair and taking a hike at her friend's mountain cabin once she had much-needed back surgery.
Melissa never married and had no children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Goldie Folz. She is survived by her brothers Delmon Folz of Seeley, CA, and Lawrence (Rebecca) Folz of Spicer, MN, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Melissa will be missed!
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 27th at 11 AM at Grace Reformed Church, 834 S. Wolcott, Casper. Interment will be at a later date.
