Services for Mary A. Peters, 88, will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday May 25, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 332 East Second Street by Rev. Steve Burnett. Visitation will be Thursday May 23, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home. Interment will be at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery alongside her husband, Gordon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Mary's name directly to the First United Methodist Church Thrift Store 611 W. Collins Dr. Casper, WY 82601.
Mary passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center.
Mary was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on October 16, 1924, to Neal and Evelyn McCarthy. She passed away May 18, 2013 at Shepherd of the Valley Care Home.
She moved to Mason City, Iowa at the age of three. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1942 and started to work at North West Bell. She worked for the telephone company for 10 years, starting as an operator on the local board and retiring as an instructor on Toll.
That is where she met Gordon Peters. They were married February 28, 1948. They moved to Casper in 1958 when Gordon transferred to Mountain Bell.
Mary sold Avon for 15 years, then in 1978 started volunteering at the Methodist Thrift Shop and she became manager. She enjoyed traveling all over the United States in their 5th wheel.
She had two children, Nancy Jenkins of Casper and Gregg Peters of Aurora, Colorado. She has four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her two children, Nancy Jenkins, and husband Mike; Gregg Peters, and wife Carol. Four grandchildren Janique Koch, Matthew Simmons, Jessica Simmons and Britney Peters. Four great-grandchildren, Austin Simmons, Kaitlyn Koch, Emma Simmons and Lilly Simmons. She is also survived by her only sister, Jean Hendricks. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gordon Wayne Peters.
