Mary passed away at Wyoming Medical Center due to congestive heart failure on September 12, 2014. She passed away praising God for her wonderful life and family. Mary was born in Afton, Oklahoma on April 30, 1917. She was the daughter of Walter Hill and Mary(Hudspeth) Hill. She was raised in Afton, Oklahoma and Miami, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school and Northeastern Oklahoma A & M Junior College.
In 1997 after the death of her husband James L Wetzel she moved to Casper to be closer to her older son and his family. During her time in Casper she was a member PEO Chapter G and attended the First Presbyterian Church and Paradise Valley Christian Church. She was a member of a small group bible study that met at Garden Square. After her love of the Lord, her major enjoyment was her interaction with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a housewife whose major purpose in life was to raise and enjoy her children. In between she enjoyed doing cross stitch and making cut out type lampshades as hobbies. She loved playing bridge and gin rummy. Being a sports fan was also a priority. She enjoyed watching professional golf and if you were a novice she had no trouble explaining the game. As most "Okies" rooting and cheering for Oklahoma(OU) and Oklahoma State(OSU) were high on her agenda; however when they played each other OU took precedence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mary(Hudspeth) Hill, her younger sister Virginia(Hill) Adams, and her husband of 59 years James L Wetzel.
She is survived by her two sons James L Wetzel Jr of Casper and John Hill Wetzel of Weston, Connecticut, her daughter-in-laws Peggy Wetzel of Casper and Judy Wetzel of Weston Connecticut, her grandchildren Becky(Dayton)Kobayashi of Parker, Co., Jim(Heather)Wetzel of Casper, Wy, Kristen(Mitch) Shannon of Parker, Co. Matthew Wetzel of Salt Lake City, Ut, and Jeff(Lisa) Wetzel of Sacramento, Ca; great grandchildren Connor Wetzel, Emily Kobayashi, Payton Wetzel, Hannah Kobayashi, Grace Kobayashi, Kieran Shannon, and Delaney Shannon. They will all miss their "Mimi".
A memorial service will be held at Paradise Valley Christian Church on October 4, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Memorials in her name may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice, MS Chapter of Colorado-Wyoming, or the Paradise Valley Christian Church.
