MARY ELIZABETH BATES
Surrounded by her family, Mary quietly slipped away to join her Heavenly Father,
after a lengthy illness on May 18, 2006.
.
She was born July 12, 1929 in Springfield, Missouri and the daughter of Blanch Banks. At
a young age, she moved to Wyoming and attended schools in Sussex and Midwest.
On July 15, 1947 she married (Oscar) Gene Bates. Together they raised their two daughters
Cathy and Sharon in Midwest and Riverton.
Since 1997 they have lived in Casper to be near their children and grandchildren.
Mary's life revolved around her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was their biggest fan and supported their never ending challenges. She always had time to listen, offered words of encouragement, found something good about everything, and a kiss to make it all better.
Her kitchen always smelled of fresh baked pastries. The refrigerator was covered with newly colored or painted pictures from her favorite young artists. Her garden was filled with vibrant colors and fragrant smells
She is survived by her husband Gene of 58 years, daughters Cathy and husband Norman Brown of Casper, Sharon and husband Jerry Lucas of Sheridan. Mary was blessed with three grandchildren - Shannon Lucas of Pine Bluffs, Norman "Dike" Brown of Casper, and Jeramy Lucas of Sheridan,
7 great grandchildren - Brock, Tiffany, Shaye, Rory, Whitney, Addison, and Justyce who will arrive Monday May 22, 2006, 2 sisters - Kate Baker of Cheyenne, Fern Ley of Cheyenne, and 2 brothers - Bob Stanley of Thermopolis and Donald English of Cody, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and sister Flora Mae Schatz.
