Marven Earl Smith

July 30, 1932 — June 15, 2018

Marven E. Smith Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 15th, 2018 in Casper, Wyoming after a long illness.

Marven was born on July 30th, 1932 to Fred and May Smith, in Presho, South Dakota. He grew up around that area and at age 17, he joined the Air Force. Marven was an active soldier during the Korean War and served for four years before being honorably discharged with a rank of Staff Sargent on September 24th, 1953. He met Marian Black in 1954 and they married in 1955. They were married for 62 years.

Marven worked as a book binder in Pierre and Sioux Falls, South Dakota for 5 years. He then went on to be an office supplies salesman until he received his real estate license and became an agent for 3 years. After that he worked at Sears in Rapid City, South Dakota for many years.

In 1977, he and his family moved to Casper, Wyoming where he worked for Montgomery Wards and Fred Schmid until he retired in 1996.

Marven enjoyed being with his family and spending time out at Alcova lake during the summer. His sense of humor touched us all. He was always there to lend his support and help others, and he was dearly loved by so many people.

Marven is survived by the love of his life Marian, his four children, Sandy Peek and her husband Steve from Billings MT, Marven Smith Jr. (Cork) and Linda Ireland from Rapid City, SD, Sherri Herman and her husband John from Casper WY, Matthew Smith and his wife Aurora from Billings, MT; 72 grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his sister, Iola Butt of Rapid City, South Dakota; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery on June 21st at 10 AM.
