Marilynn Daly Sandbak passed away in Casper, Wyoming on March 4, 2012 at Shepherd of the Valley after a long illness. She was born in Denver, Colorado on January 9, 1922. Her parents, Zeta and Alan Gordon, were farmers in Nebraska at the time, and her father, Alan, was later a member of the Nebraska legislature.
She spent her childhood in Nebraska during the tough times of the dust bowl years, and her father died when she was 12. The family moved to Casper, and as the youngest child, Marilynn was enrolled in school while her siblings worked to support their mother and the family.
Marilynn married Francis Eugene Daly on December 31, 1941. They were married for 25 years, living Casper most of that time. Marilynn worked for Casper National Bank as a secretary, and was an employee there when the bank burned down and they took up temporary quarters in the old Grand Central Bar space.
She and Frank eventually divorced. Marilynn worked for a local insurance company and then a stock brokerage firm, eventually forming her own brokerage firm, First Western Securities. She specialized in over the counter oil and energy stocks, and had a wide network of friends and customers throughout Wyoming and the United States.
She married Earl "Sandy" Sandbak, a longtime Casper realtor, and they had a long and happy marriage. They golfed together and she got a hole in one before he did, which pleased her greatly. Various golden retrievers, all named "Clipper" were a part of most of their married life. Marilynn had the gift of music and could play the piano by ear. As a recent resident of Maurice Griffith Manor assisted living facility, she could still be coaxed into a tune.
Even after closing First Western, she continued to work as an agent for a Denver brokerage firm until finally retiring in her late 70's.
Marilynn is survived by her four children, Lynn Stateham (New Bern, NC); Kimberle Robinett (Casper, WY); Kevin Daly (Marshall, TX); and Kerry Daly (Conroe, TX) as well as 11 grandchildren and 4 stepchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Casper Humane Society, 849 East E. Street, Casper, Wyoming 82601. A family memorial service and celebration of life will follow at a later date.
