Marie Theresa (McGrath) Stanley O.C.D.S, age 87, of Casper, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2017 at Central Wyoming Hospice. Marie was born June 18, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA to George and Mary (McNally) McGrath. Marie graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and worked as a professional Girl Scout in Pennsylvania. Following her time with the Pennsylvania Girl Scouts, Marie joined the Air Force attaining a rank of Captain, there she met her husband John. They were married on February 27, 1965 in Bitburg, Germany. Together they had six children. Marie was ordained into the O.C.D.S (Order of Carmelite Discalced Secular) where she served faithfully for many years. Marie was the cornerstone on which our Lord and Blessed Mother chose to build their foundation for Carmel in Casper. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, Marie was also preceded in death by her loving husband John, oldest son Kieran, her brothers, George and Charlie and her sister, Margaret. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Richard) Atchley, Margaret (Bryan) Millmore, son, John (Jenny) Stanley, daughter Mary (Erich) Schmidt and son, Thomas (Jen) Stanley, as well as 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - Casper Chapel, as well as the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 7, beginning at 10:00 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 400 Country Club Rd. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Casper, WY.
