Marian L. Smith went home to be with the Lord and loved ones on Friday, September 6th, 2024 in Casper, Wyoming after a brief stay in the hospital.
Marian was born on July 2nd, 1937 to Leo and Lutishua Black, in Winner, South Dakota. She grew up there where she attended and graduated school. While growing up she helped her father at Leo's Market. Soon after graduation she met and married the love of her life Marven Smith.
After marriage they moved to Pierre South Dakota where she had her first two children Sandra Sue Smith and Marven Earl Smith Jr. "Cork". At which time she was a proud mother and home maker.
The family moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1960 and in 1962, the family returned to Rapid City, South Dakota. During this time their children attended school. In 1963 Marian had Sherri Lou Smith. From the years of 1963 to 1966 the family made multiple moves between Sioux Falls and Rapid City, South Dakota. Marian worked for four years starting in 1966 at Rushmore Mutual insurance as a receptionist. From 1970 to 1972 she worked for the trucking company Buckingham Trucking as a dispatcher. In July 1972 Marven and Marian were residents in Rapid City where they were affected by the Rapid City Flood. Marian welcomed her son Matthew David in 1974 after which time she chose to stay home to raise her family. In 1977, Marian and her family moved to Casper, Wyoming where she happily continued to raise her family. Marian took a position with the Natrona County School District in 1989 as a special needs aide which she often expressed great amounts of joy working with the children. She worked there until she retired.
Marian lived for her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grand children and great grandchildren. She was caring and loving to her family. She also enjoyed time attending services at Faith Bible Chapel and on occasion going to the casino and playing board and card games with her family, which she often beat them at.
Marian is survived by her four children, Sandy Peek and her husband Steve from Billings, MT. Marven Smith Jr. "Cork" and his wife Linda Ireland Smith from Wellsburg, West Virginia, Sherri Herman and her husband John from Casper, WY. Matthew Smith and his wife Aurora from Billings, MT; 75 grandchildren and great grandchildren, her brother Darrel Black and his wife Ellen of Casper Wyoming, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Faith Bible Chapel on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 10:00am, to be followed by a small service at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery where she will be buried with her husband Marven Smith.
