Marian W. Roberts

March 3, 1934 — April 22, 2021

Marian Juanita Wilkins Roberts passed away peacefully at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper on April 22, 2021 surrounded by family.

Marian was born March 3, 1934. She was the youngest of four children born to Ruble and Eunice (Crawford) Wilkins in New Orleans, LA. Marian grew up in New Orleans where she was an avid reader who loved to dance. While attending the all-girl McDonaugh High School, she was chosen by her P.E. teacher to be one of the first-ever Sugarette dancers for the 1951 Sugar Bowl. After graduating from high school at 17, Marian worked as a telephone operator for the Southern Bell Telephone Company until a blind date changed her life.

In 1955, Dale Roberts and a friend were visiting New Orleans from South Dakota for Mardi Gras. Marian begrudgingly agreed when a friend who was dating Dale's friend asked her to be Dale's blind date for a Mardi Gras event. Dale returned to South Dakota a few days later knowing Marian was "the one". They kept in touch through telephone calls, and Marian made one trip to stay with Dale's family in South Dakota before they were married on October 15, 1955, in New Orleans.

After the wedding, Dale and Marian settled down in Belle Fourche, SD, where Dale was the owner of the Belle Fourche Implement Company, and Marian worked at the local telephone company. Soon Marian became a stay-at-home mom for their three children: Bob, Janelle, and Cyndee.

Once their children were grown, the couple moved to New Orleans where Marian worked in admissions at Ochsner Hospital after being out of the workforce form more than 30 years. While Marian enjoyed living in New Orleans again, she missed her family. She and Dale moved to Casper in 1989 where two of their three children were living. Marian was then employed in the admissions department at Wyoming Medical Center until she retired.

Marian was known for her amazing cooking skills, fashion sense, and green thumb.

Marian is survived by her three children: Bob (Bertie) Roberts of Rapid City, South Dakota, Janelle (Rod) Ehrich of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Cyndee (Dean) Guthmiller of Casper, Wyoming; grandsons, Cordell (Kelsey) Ehrich of Edmund, Oklahoma, Spencer (Emily) Guthmiller of Casper, Wyoming, and Zachary Guthmiller of Casper, Wyoming; granddaughter Lindsey (Jay) Martin of Rapid City, South Dakota; great-granddaughters, Layne (Gaige) Mortenson of Rapid City, South Dakota, Collins Ehrich of Edmond, Oklahoma, Kody Ehrich of Edmond, Oklahoma; great-grandsons, Wyatt Martin, Rapid City, South Dakota, Trevor Guthmiller, of Casper, Wyoming, and William Ehrich of Edmond, Oklahoma; and great-great granddaughter Emerson Mortenson. She is preceded in death by husband, Dale, and grandson, Mark Ehrich.

A private family service will be held later this summer.
