CASPER -- Funeral services for Marian Joanne Carlsen, 77, will be conducted on Monday, Aug. 27,2007, at 1 p.m at the First Christian Church.
She died Aug. 22, 2007 at Wyoming Medical Center after recent years of declining health.
She was born March 25, 1930, on the family farm near Rossie, Iowa, to Robert Lee Meredith and Lola Albertus Bigler.
She married Carl Robert Carlsen on Dec. 19, 1948 in Spencer, Iowa.
She graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa and earned a master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.
She raised her three children and then started her career at the Wyoming School for the Deaf. She was a teacher for 25 years until she retired in 1992.
Her interests were reading, gardening, genealogy, needlework, and supporting the local performing arts.
She was a member of the Murie Audubon Society, Alpha Delta Kappa education sorority and American Association of University Women. She was an active member of the First Christian Church. Her activities included CWF, choir, deaconess and worship committee.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years; her sister, Helen; her sons, Craig and wife of Casper, and Dean of Tallahassee, Fla.; a daughter, Lynne Barry and husband of Sacramento, Calif.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be made to Frist Christian Church, Nicolaysen Art Museum or Gertrude Krampert Theater.
Newcomer family Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
