Margaret Akers

April 17, 1939 — March 5, 2016

Margaret Ann "Peg" Akers passed away March 5, 2016 at Life Care of Casper.

The fourth of nine children, Peg was born to Margaret and Alfred Bittleston of Casper on April 17, 1939. An alumna of St. Anthony grade school, Peg then graduated with honors from Entiat High School, Entiat, Washington in 1957. She returned to Casper, eventually working as a Wonder Bread manager for over thirty years.

In her teen years she modeled for Bostwick's, and won third place in the state pie contest. As a Mom, she volunteered at St. Anthony School as a PE teacher, gave throat cultures, played Santa Clause, and prepared hot lunches for students. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and supported her boys' many sports teams. She was a foster mother to seven children with special needs. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, painting, jigsaw puzzles and Sudoku, rowdy card games, and watching Property Brothers. She was a Rosary maker for the Church and a volunteer at Holy Cross Food Bank. Not your typical grandma, Peg logged Facebook hours into the early mornings and loved her new iPad. She loved her dog Taco.

Her strength was found in the important things in life – church, family, and friends. She was a proud mother to six children and will be remembered as someone who loved the Lord and helped people.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Bud (William) Bittleston, Lynn Bittleston, Bob Bittleston, John Bittleston, Jimmy Bittleston, and sisters Darlene Crogness and Janice Patrick.

Peg is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Phil Witt of Casper; children Ted Akers of Castle Rock, Colorado, Don Akers of Houston, Joe and Lois Akers of Atchison, Kansas, Mike and Kristi Akers of Casper, Tammy and Bill Martin of Phoenix, Mindy and Ben DeLuca of Phoenix; grandchildren Scott, Rachel, Andrew, Ryan, Ashley, Sean, Brian, Allan, Josh, Alysa, Stephen, Nick, Angela, Shyla and Samuel; great granddaughter Kalisa; her tea sipping buddies/nieces Michelle Sisneros and Laura Conrad; numerous nieces and nephews; her 1953 St. Anthony School classmates Pat, Arlene, Vivian, Janet, Shirley and Mary; and her best friend Ardelle Martin.

The Funeral Mass is Monday, March 14 at 10:00 am at the Church of St. Anthony. Following burial at Highland Cemetery a luncheon will be provided in O'Reilly Hall at the church.

A Memorial Celebration is Sunday, March 13 at Newcomer Funeral Home: Visitation at 6:00 pm, Rosary at 7:00 pm followed by your favorite stories, photos and memories.
