CASPER -- Memorial services for Mardell Caroline Gay Wilson, 87, will be 12 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Newcomer Family Funeral Home with private inurnment in Highland Cemetery.

She died on May 31, 2008, at Central Wyoming Hospice.

She was born on Dec. 6, 1920, in Chadron, Neb., to Joseph Earl Gay and Sarah Marie Anders.

She traveled back and forth between Nebraska and Oregon for the first few years of her life before the family settled in Casper in 1929. She started 4th grade at Willard School and later attended Lincoln Elementary School, Casper Junior High and Natrona County High School.

On August 25, 1939, she was introduced to the love of her life Jack D. Wilson and they were married Sept. 29, 1939, at the old county court house in Casper. They were married 61 years.

After her marriage they lived in Casper for a short time while her husband worked at A. E. Chandlers Service Station.

In 1940, they moved to Orchards Ranch in the Big Horn Mountains near Tensleep. She cooked for all the hands and her husband worked as a ranch hand.

They left the ranch in 1942, and came back to Casper before leaving for Vancouver, Wash., on July 5, 1942.

Her husband got work in the Kaiser Shipyards helping to rebuild the fleet after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

She began her lifelong work as a dedicated housewife and mother.

They returned to Casper at the end of the war.

She served as treasurer of the Natrona County Young Democrats at their formation in 1949.

She was involved with volunteering for the throat culture program at Lincoln School during the 1950s.

She loved gardening, reading and cooking. She belonged to bridge clubs in Casper when she was young.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Edmondson and her husband of Casper; son, James Wilson and his wife of Firestone, Colo.; sister, Dora Jean Westbrook of Casper; brothers, Stanley Cadwell and Wayne Gay of Casper and George Cadwell of Begley, Minn.; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, in 2001; stepfather, Richard K. Cadwell Sr.; sisters, Patricia Cadwell, Willa Maves; brother, Richard K. �¿�Dick�¿� Cadwell Jr.; daughters, Jacquelin Roszel and Carol Monniere.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Central Wyoming Hospice or purchase of a book for your local library in her memory.

Newcomer Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
