Lucy Maud "Maudie" Sly Robertson born November 24, 1912, Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada, died of natural causes on Saturday, January 23, 2016 joining her beloved "Cookie."
She was born to Professor Ernest and Lucy Sly, joining her older sister, Mabel. Her love of music was inspired by her father. He was a man of multiple talents; an accomplished musician, teacher and composer. Maudie's love and appreciation for music began at a very early age.
Maudie graduated from Rushville High School, Rushville, Nebraska and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, majoring in music specializing in clarinet and piano. While there she played in the all-girls band, participated in musical activities as well as the City Symphony Orchestra, and was a cheerleader.
After graduating she pursued her love of music into teaching in Torrington, Wyoming. She taught an all-girls band and helped start the first remote controlled radio station where she was the disc jockey. In spite of her hectic schedule she found time to form a five-piece female dance band known as the "Lady's in Red." Their proficiency and popularity was quickly recognized and the band was in high demand from such reputable clubs as the Shriners, Elks and Legions, just to name a few.
In her travels she met, fell in love and married Clyde "Cookie" Robertson on January 2, 1938. After moving to Casper, Maudie worked at Chase E Wells and managed Les Parsons. She belonged to Casper Eastern Star, City Band, and the Senior Dance Band.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cookie, and her best friend and sister, Mabel. At Maudie's request there will be no services. Internment will take place at Highland Park Cemetery. In lieu of any memorial contributions please celebrate Maudie's life with a toast. We take our hats off to you Maudie – you were an inspiration to all of us!
