CASPER -- An informal gathering of friends of Louis C. Rognstad, 84, will be held from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at the Casper Petroleum Club.

He was born March 5, 1923, in Oslo, Norway and as an infant, moved to Casper where he had resided since.

After completing studies in the Casper school system, he attended the University of Wyoming from 1940-1944 and received a bachelor of science degree with majors in physics and mathematics.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a noncommissioned electronics petty officer from 1944-1946 in World War II.

While in the Navy, he married Lucy R. Bechtel.

Returning to Casper in 1946, he entered the construction business. Before retirement, he was owner and administrative officer of Rognstad Construction, a general contracting corporation.

The two children from his marriage, Lauren Anne Rognstad and Richard L. Rognstad, survive.

In addition to activities of the construction company, he was active in numerous corporations and partnerships keyed to investments in and development of real estate ventures in Wyoming.

While in Casper, he served on the City Council, as president of the Wyoming Contractors Association, director of the Casper Chamber of Commerce and as a member of numerous civic organizations.

His recreational activities included fly fishing, golfing, tennis, backpacking, performing with the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra and creating artistic designs and carvings.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Casper Chamber Music Society, in care of Susan Stanton, 741 W. 58th, Casper, 82601; or the Casper College Foundation, in care of Paul Hallock, 125 College Dr., Casper, 82601.
