Lorraine (Lori) Marie Burback was born on April 12, 1935 in Rolla, North Dakota. She was the only daughter, along with three brothers, born to Joseph and Isabella Jalbert. During most of her school years, she lived with her family in Ogden, Utah. The later portion of those years were spent living with two of her brothers as boarders at St. Ann Orphanage & School in Salt Lake City upon the death of their mother. In 1953, she graduated from Salt Lake City Judge Memorial Catholic High School. Lorraine went on to live in Oakland, California and was employed by the Oakland Tribune. She also served as a Red Cross volunteer where she met a young marine from Nebraska that would become the love of her life.
On May 25, 1957, Lorraine was united in marriage to Henry "LeRoy" Burback at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Casper. Together they made Wyoming a permanent home and their marriage was blessed with three children, Greg, Teri, and Stephanie. Over the years they shared many adventurous outings that included camping, fishing, and vacationing as a family and with close friends. PTO member, Boy Scout den mother, seamstress, spectator at school and sporting activities, devote spiritual guide, mediator, cheerleader for educational growth, and steadfast giver of unconditional love were but a few of the roles that Lorraine carried out as a mom. She once wrote that "motherhood has indeed been the most rewarding achievement of my life." Her joyful spirit, loving heart, and playful sense of humor lead her to be called "Gdawg" by her grandkids who simply adored her.
Lori worked for 32 years for the City of Casper Board of Public as a knowledgeable, hard-working administrative secretary. She also dedicated years of clerical expertise to Burback's Refrigeration, a family owned business. She was a faithful member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She sponsored two Nairobian children into adulthood through the Unbound program and viewed her support and correspondence with them to be a true honor. Lorraine touched many lives with her positive outlook, infectious smile, and gentle and generous nature. She was a loyal and cherished friend to many. To know Lori, was simply to love her.
Lori passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 30, 2020 at the age of 85 years. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Joseph and Isabella Jalbert; and Brothers, Ed (Ellene), Jerry, and Hector (Henrietta). Blessed be her memory.
Lorraine is survived by LeRoy and their Children and Grandchildren, Greg (Cindy) Burback, Michelle (Kameron) Black, Annie, and Arianne; Teri (Greg) Wheatley, Joe (Claire) and Elle; Stephanie (Shane) Gundlach, Sarah (Martin) and Katherine, extended family and friends. Lori will be forever missed.
