Lois Jean Boyd

February 1, 1931 — April 22, 2025

Casper Wyoming

Lois Jean Boyd, 94, of Casper, Wyoming passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Lois lived in Casper for nearly seven decades having arrived as a newlywed with her first husband, Ted Leik, whom she met at the University of Denver. Lois and Ted raised their three children in Casper until they divorced in 1969. Lois later married JC Boyd in 1976. JC predeceased Lois in 2022. Lois continued to live in the family home until Easter Sunday 2025 when she was moved to hospice. Two days later Lois went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a wonderful role model on giving and compassion and faith. She loved a fun gathering and a strong Scotch! Lois treasured her Sunday dinners with her daughter, Cindy and her family and the golden grand dog! Her door was always open to old and new friends alike.

Born to Jean and Jim Thomas in Denver, CO on February 1, 1931, Lois attended the Kent School for Girls and graduated from South High School. Following high school graduation, Lois attended the University of Denver where she was a Delta Gamma and studied restaurant and hotel management. Lois had spent much of her youth with her mother, Jean, in elegant hotels and restaurants and always had an interest in the hospitality industry. However, she did not complete her degree, leaving the University to raise her children.

Lois was active in the Casper Service League, St. Mark’s (Altar Guild) and St. Stephen’s (Vestry) Episcopal Churches and volunteered at the Nicolaysen Art Museum (“the Nic”) for 25 years, only stopping when she lost her remaining vision. Lois was appointed to Metro Planning to work with the City of Casper to install talking stop lights throughout downtown in the early 1990’s, she was active in Daughters of the Nile, Mended Hearts, and devoted much of her later years to low vision support and resources in Wyoming. Lois was president of the Wyoming Council for the Blind for 9 years and remained active when she could no longer see. Lois lost her vision from macular holes starting in her early 60s and was an inspiration to many in the low vision community as she continued to socialize and volunteer. She excelled at being a wonderful Grandmother to eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Many of her grandchildren sweetly referred to her as “Granny blue eyes”.

Although Lois left college to raise her family, she continued to learn through classes at Casper College, seminars for the blind, listening to audio books and gathering interesting information from friends and family. Lois and JC were active in the Casper Shrine Club and traveled extensively in their motor home with a group of Shrine friends. They also traveled in the US and abroad. Just recently Lois’ grandchildren asked what her favorite trip was, and she gushed that she loved Spain and attending the Cutter Races in Jackson Hole. Lois really loved her dogs and missed having their companionship in her later years. Sitting in her patio and listening to the birds was one of her favorite pastimes.

Lois is survived by daughters Cindy (Jim) King and Karen (Jeff) Kerns and her sibling Peggy Sue Andre. Her son Mark Leik predeceased her in 2022. Lois’ eight grandchildren are Brian King, Brendan King, Nick Leik (Clara), Ian Leik (Susan), Alex Leik, Allison Kerns Fikse (Jake), Jackie Kerns McDonald (Shane) and Connor Kerns (Lili).

A celebration of life for Lois is pending, and an update will follow. Anyone wishing to honor Lois with a memorial gift is encouraged to donate to WY Council for the Blind (WYCB c/o 2436 S. Poplar, Casper, WY 82604), the Casper Humane Society, Central Wyoming Hospice, or the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the wonderful ladies with Mel's Helping Hands that took such wonderful care of our mother for the last five years. They were like family to her, sharing hugs and their love with her every day. We also want to thank the lovely care givers at Hospice for their tender and thoughtful care of our mom. They're the best! Thank you!

“A life well-lived good and faithful servant.”
