Our beautiful mother, wife, and friend Leslie A. Thies, age 64, passed away peacefully after a long battle with breast cancer on February 22, 2022. She was ready, and excited to be with her Lord and Savior. Leslie was born on April 30, 1957 in Lockport, Illinois to Elaine (Rigoni) and Earl Garfield. Leslie was a loving mother of three, an adoring wife, Gigi to four beautiful grandsons with one on the way, and a loyal and dependable friend to many.
Leslie's life began in Illinois. In elementary school Leslie had a lot of friends. She very quickly earned the nickname "Chatty Kathy" by her teachers. She attended barber school in Joliet, Illinois shortly after graduating highschool. She loved her job, not so much the work itself, but the relationships she formed because of it. She met her first husband, Jeff Brackmann, the father of her daughters, Mallory and Adrienne, while cutting his hair in 1980. Leslie vacationed to Wyoming to visit her life-long friend, Rose, and fell in love with the mountains and small community of Casper. In 1992 she and her daughters moved to Wyoming with Jeff's support. Shortly after moving, she met Jim Thies on the front steps of Sunlight Ministries Church. Jim says he "instantly fell in love." They married in 1993 and had their son, Sam, 9 months later. Although Jim and Leslie divorced in 2015, they remained friends, and their love for each other never ended.
Leslie was a beautiful woman inside and out. Everyone loved her, her magnetic personality was second to none. Her relationship with the Lord was unshakable. Most people walk with God, but Leslie wasn't a walker, she grabbed God's hand and ran. She was an incredible example of Christ's love and compassion. She is a perfect example of her favorite Bible verse James 3:17. Leslie loved fiercely. She often donated her time to help others and organizations around Casper. Her loved ones (including her friends) were her main interest. Leslie was extremely talented and creative. Her skill sets were endless... She could take a bad hair day for others and turn it into a style they were most happy with. She could take a fridge full of seemingly nothing and turn it into a delicious home cooked meal. She could take something others viewed as trash and turn it into an exquisite treasure. She poured her heart and love into everything she crafted. She could see the beauty in everyone and everything. It's not enough to say that Leslie adored her grandchildren. Those who called her Gigi were her pride and joy, even more so than her amazing children. Leslie loved to have fun. All of those close to her have endless memories filled with laughter and so much love. We will all cherish the time we had with her, her calls and text messages, and all of her beautiful prayers.
She is survived by the love of her life, Dr. Jim Thies DVM; her three children, Adrienne (Mac) Mayfield, Mallory (Jeremiah) Kost, and Sam (Ciara) Thies; five grandchildren, Ezekiel & Isaac Mayfield, Noah & Ezra Kost, and Baby Thies; three siblings, Lynn (Richard) Reed, Jeffery Garfield, and Laura Moore; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Casper Youth for Christ, Leslie volunteered much of her time there.
Services will be held at River of Life Church in Casper, WY, Friday, March 4th, 2022 at 4:00 PM with a reception to follow. Leslie loved color so please wear color or come as you are.
