Leora V. Shumway

January 18, 1956 — January 2, 2016

Leora Virgie Shumway, born January 18, 1956 in Casper, Wyoming passed away on January 2, 2016 at her home on Casper Mountain.

Leora was born to Kent and Amy Andrews and was the youngest of four daughters. Leora was as beautiful as a flower, but was tough as nails and began her career in construction working with her father. She continued her career at the City of Casper, keeping our parks beautiful and our streets and alleyways maintained and safe. She was a dedicated and hard worker, and she loved what she did. She described herself as "the roughest and the toughest."

Leora had a passion for the outdoors, especially Casper Mountain. She lived on Casper Mountain for 39 years in a home that she built with her first husband. She had complete serenity being on the mountain and at her home.

On August 14, 1990 she gave birth to her true love and best friend, Kathleen Amy Shumway. She was a proud mom and would go to any length for her daughter. She was also a mother to her dogs and cat who gave her daily joy. She was patient and kind to everyone and she had a heart of gold.

Leora loved to stay connected with her family and friends and would be on the phone for hours. She was usually positive although she was up against great odds. She loved with her whole heart and wanted to share that love with those around her. She had the uncanny ability to make people feel special and important. She brought humor to any situation and will be greatly missed.

Leora is preceded in death by Kent Andrews (father), Amy and Glenn Henry (mother and step-father), Joe Smith (brother in-law), & Steve Guthrie (brother in-law).

Survived by Kathleen Shumway (daughter), Helen Guthrie (sister), Kelly & Susan (sister) (Handley) McQueary, Vivian Smith (sister), Ruth Andrews (step-mother), Jack & Wendy (niece) Palmer and family, Tony Handley (nephew) & Mike Tierney, Brenden Westbrook (nephew), Shaun (nephew) & Joy Guthrie and family, Trish (niece) Reeb & Chris York and family.
