Leonard made his heavenly journey on July 8, 2020, with family at his side. He had been in ill health since having a stroke five years ago.
He was born on June 22, 1940, to Ed and Pearl Darling in Casper, Wyoming, and later moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota, with his mother and four siblings. His mother later married Marvin VanDewater and was soon joined by three more siblings. Leaving the farm at an early age, he drove truck and joined the Army with his brother Jim. While stationed in Germany, he met and married Doris Raab on September 27, 1963, and together with daughter Petra, they returned to the US upon his discharge. Later, with the birth of daughter Peggy, their life was complete.
Leonard drove over-the-road truck for many years and upon retiring from Combined Transport, he went for coffee and ended up with a new job, working for Black Hills Trucking for approximately ten years and could tell you the Highway number of roads he had traveled. When ill health forced him to retire, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and coffee.
Happy to have shared his life are wife, Doris, Daughters Petra and Paul Jones and Peggy and Jay Gibson. He is also survived by his sister Cora and Stan Fugier of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Mary and Russ Hoff of Casper and by sisters-in-law Patti Darling and Judy VanDewater. He is also survived by Grandchildren Bailey, Courtney and Megan and soon to be first great grandchild. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Ted, Dennis, Jim, George, and Charlie, his parents, sisters-in law Lena, Beth, and Pat, niece Collie and nephews Marvin, Ernest, and Kelly.
Services will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, July 13, 2020 at Newcomer Casper Chapel with Military Honors. Interment will follow at Wyoming Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to the Casper Humane Society.
