Lawrence H. Hawks, 95 of Casper, Wyoming, passed away Monday, November 4, 2013
He was born to the late Harley and Metta Hawks April 8, 1918, in Whitesville, New York. He Attended Wellsville High School. He married Mildred Dickey on March 15, 1942
Lawrence was a mechanic most his life. He was working at Cities Service in Hornell, New York when Mildred stopped to ask if she could use the phone. He went on to work at Worthington Steam Turbine in Wellsville, New York and then went on to work at Acme Electric in Cuba, New York with Mildred during the war. He was Head Bus Mechanic at Whitesville Central School, 1950-1952. They then moved to Spring Hope, North Carolina. He worked at a Studebaker and Buick Dealership 1952-1957. The family returned to New York; he worked at Grave's Automotive in Standards, New York. After moving to Dansville, New York he worked for Shay's Trucking and Owen's Trucking. After retiring they moved to Casper in 1982 to be near his older daughter and family.
Lawrence was always fixing things up around the house, when not doing that he would be working in the vegetable garden or his flowers. He was always bringing Mildred in a fresh rose or a bright red strawberry. He enjoyed fishing in the Big Horns. They traveled a great deal visiting family and friends
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Mildred, one Brother, Arnold Hawks, of Wellsville, NY and two Daughters; Maxine Harris (Cecil) of Casper, WY and Susan Young (David) of Dansville, NY. He also is survived by eight Grandchildren; Tony Harris (Lynda) of Casper, WY, Brain Harris (Jody Correll) of Casper, WY, Craig Harris (Sheila) of Evansville, WY, Danny Harris (Rose Stinson) of Casper, WY, Chad Harris (Lula) of Fort Collins, CO, Jeffery Young of Beyersville, NY, Graig Young (Karen) of Rochester, NY and Michael Young (Amy) of Dansville, NY. He also has 14 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Metta Hawks; Sisters, Alice VanSchoick, Barbara Herman, Alta Snyder and Brother, Jason Hawks.
Memorial services are at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2020 S. Jefferson Street, Casper, Wyoming at 11:00 am on Friday, November 8, 2013, with reception to follow.
