Lawrence "Larry" Lorraine Baxter
Funeral Services for Lawrence Lorraine Baxter, 94, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday April 12, 2008, at Faith Assembly of God Church with the Reverend David Taylor from the Church of God of Prophecy officiating. Interment will be in Wyoming Memorial Gardens with military honors accorded by The United Veterans' Council and The Wyoming National Guard. Friends may call at Friday April 11, 2008 from
2 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home. He died April 6, 2008 at his home.
Lawrence L. Baxter was born February 21, 1914 in Speed, Kansas, the son of William R. and Hattie Mae (Gingles) Baxter. At the age of two, he moved with his parents to White Sulphur Springs, Montana where his dad homesteaded. In 1920 the family moved to Wyoming to the Laramie Peak area where his mother taught school. In 1923 he moved with his parents to a small farm west of Glendo. In 1941, he joined the army at the beginning of World War II. He was in five major battles as a machine gunner, three of them, St. La, The Battle of the Bulge, and The Battle of the Rhine.
In 1942 he married Viola Mary Corson in Escondido, CA. To this union was born 10 children.
He is survived by Shirley Bennett, of Guernsey, WY, Richard Baxter, Frances Seechrist,
Dora Reichel, all of Casper, Mary Goodman of Batavia, OH, Lawrence "Bud" Baxter Jr., William L. Baxter both of Casper, Kathy Cook, of Elmendorf, TX, Sharon Johnson, of Sheridan, WY, 27 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Viola Mary Baxter, and daughter Lorraine Hicks
