Laurence Slaymaker

Laurence D. Slaymaker

Laurence D. Slaymaker was born on July 9, 1947 in Lebanon, MO to Laurence and Mary Slaymaker, their oldest son.
Larry was taken from this his family and friends to early on October 20, 2007 in an accident on Shirley Mountain, that he loved.
He grew up in Missouri, Nebraska, and Wyoming. As a child and a young man he attended St. Anthony's, Dean Morgan and while attending NCHS, Larry chose to join the U.S. Navy and serve his county. Larry proudly served his country during Vietnam in the US Navy, upon returning home from the War; Larry married the love of his life Sandra K. Congleton December 14, 1968. They had two children Lori Lynn and Michael Laurence.
Larry worked a Texaco Refinery for many year and the last nineteen and a half a WATCO.
One of Larry's proudest moments was on June 2, 2004; with his family he received his high school diploma from Natrona County High School.
Larry enjoyed a life filled with love along side the love of his life, children, grandchildren, and friends. Larry never met a stranger and he was always there for any one who needed him. All that knew him knew he believed in a hard, honest days work and to enjoy life's little pleasures. He found his pleasures in his family, intricate woodworking, riding his motorcycle, prospecting for gold, taking his oldest grandson hunting for the first time, taking all his grandchildren fishing and camping, and he loved to travel. He loved spending the weekends and evenings with his wife walking their property planning their next project together. He always lived life to the fullest.
Larry found a passion in serving his fellow service members through his dedication and work with the VFW. At the time of his death, Larry was proudly serving as District Three Commander and as a member of VFW Post 10969. Always doing what he could to help his fellow Vets. Larry was also involved with Twelve Days of Christmas, where he sold the beautiful woodworking he had created, and serving last year as Chairman.
