Kenneth Emerson Sonesen, aged 90, of Casper, Wyoming and Yuma, Arizona passed away at his son's home on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
Ken was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 1, 1924 to Andrew and Emma Sonesen. After honorably serving in the Armed Guard in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945, he lived his life in Casper, Wyoming with his wife Marilee Waddell of Gillette, Wyoming. Ken and Marilee marred June 29, 1947 in the First Christian Church of Gillette, Wyoming.
Ken was father to Jeff (Mary) of Douglas, WY, Kennylee of Salome, AZ, Kelly, Peggy (Bruce) of Tensleep, WY, Lila (Gary) of Hughesville, MD, Scott (Dr. Christina K McCann) of Casper, WY, and James (Mary) of Casper, WY. Ken is grandfather to 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Ken was a 65 year member of the Masonic Order. Ken was known for his kindness, compassion, love of his friends and family, his quick wit, and his keen sense of humor. Once he and his wife retired, he enjoyed spending his summers at the family cabin in the Big Horn Mountains fishing, and his winters in Yuma, AZ golfing.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents: Andrew and Emma, his children: Kelly and Lila, and his grandson: Christopher.
A memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery Chapel with Navy Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Central Wyoming Hospice and the Shriner's Hospital for Children in honor of his memory.
