Kathleen Benton was born on January 26, 1925 to Joseph and Minnie (Winnington) McHugh in Northwich, Cheshire England. She grew up in a loving family with two brothers, Tom and Joe during WWII. That war brought her one true love to England, Robert Benton. Robert was serving in the U. S. Army in England during WWII, when he met and later proposed to Kathleen. They married on September 30, 1944. A year later, their oldest child was born, Carolyn. After the war, they returned to live in the mountains of Colorado, where Robert's ashes are scattered, and where Kathleen wishes her ashes scattered as well. She became a naturalized citizen on April 16, 1964, an event of which she was very proud.
She and Robert later moved to Wyoming, and there they raised their children. Robert passed away on October 29, 1997 and Kathleen lived in their home until December, 2005, when she moved to Shepherd of the Valley Care Center.
They were blessed with seven children: Carolyn Mariegard of Casper; George Richards and his wife, Gail of Colorado Springs, CO; Robert Benton, Jr. and his wife, Stephanie of Evansville; Sue Britton; Denise Bloomgren; Kathy Hamre and her husband, Mike; Karen Harrison and her husband, Jim all of Casper.
They were blessed with nine grandchildren: Steve Mariegard of Casper; Connie Roy and her husband, Stephen of Colorado Springs, CO; Linda Richards, now deceased; Jaime Cronin and her husband, Matt of Casper; Andrea Ni and her husband, Alan of New York, NY; Leonard Bloomgren of Colorado Springs, CO; David Bloomgren; Brad Lutz; Lloyd Hamre and Aaron Hamre all of Casper.
They were blessed with five great-grand-children: Samantha and Alexander Roy of Colorado Springs, CO; Justin Salvatore and Parker Herring of Colorado Springs, CO; and Taylor Anderson of Casper.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her Parents; her husband of 53 years, Robert, Sr., her brothers, Tom and Joe, and her beautiful granddaughter, Linda Richards of Colorado Springs, CO.
She is survived by her remaining children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law in England, Marie and Mildred; a nephew in England, Paul McHugh and his family; and a nephew in San Francisco, CA, Stephen McHugh and his family.
Services for Kathleen will be held at Newcomer Family Funeral Home, 710 E. Second Street in Casper with the Rev. Don Stewart officiating on Friday, June 2 at 3:30 p.m.
Kathleen will always be remembered as a strong and determined woman; She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
