Justin Edward Maes, 34, died Monday, September 9, 2019. He made this world a better place.
Justin was born August 31, 1985 in Albuquerque, NM. He was a beloved brother, son, teacher, biologist, and fisherman. He moved to Wyoming when he was five years old but thought of himself as a native. Justin graduated from NCHS and obtained his Bachelor's Degrees in Biology and Secondary Education from the University of Wyoming. He had almost completed his Master's Degree from Montana State University. In 2009 he married Kate Cherry. They later divorced.
He is survived by his parents, Julie and Kurt Carpenter and Edward and Angela Maes; his brothers E.J. (Taylor), Mitchell, Amare; sister, Megan; and nieces Aliyah, Marina and Brooke (due this fall); and numerous grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and students.
As a secondary teacher at Poison Spider, he inspired his students and loved them and his co-workers like family. He treasured teaching science and robotics, and taking students to the mountain for CMSS. He was an artist, avid outdoorsman, and fly-fisherman. He understood the meaning of the word shenanigan!
Services to celebrate his life will be at Poison Spider School on Sunday September 15th at 3pm, with a reception following. Justin showed his passions every day, so feel free to wear a science shirt, superhero shirt/costume, Seahawks apparel, or fishing attire to brighten the gym in his memory.
In lieu of flowers we would like to invite people to make a donation to support a STEM scholarship in Mr. Maes' name at https://www.gofundme.com/f/justin-maes-stem-scholarship.
