Judith Ann Strickland Logue

August 27, 1941 — May 19, 2013

Judith Ann Strickland Logue, 71, passed away on May 19, 2013 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. As a Wyoming resident since 1966, Judy became well-known for her activism and advocacy in a wide range of endeavors.

Judy is survived by her husband, Terry, her children Jim, Kathy and Mike, granddaughter Penelope, Sister Jan and Jo, and long-time friend, Millie. Her accomplishments are celebrated by family and the numerous friends she made through her activities.

With a degree in Elementary Education, Judy taught in a one-room mountain school and physical education in a school for the deaf. She obtained a private pilot's license, which led to becoming active in Ninety-Nines, an international organization for women pilots. As historian for the group, she travelled all over the United States to record oral histories of early women pilots. She participated in an invitational trip to China as a member of the organization.

Judy became an advocate and national officer of the coalition for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

A love of nature included everything from hunting grizzlies to becoming a Master Gardener. She shared her knowledge as a horticulturist for the University of Wyoming Extension Service, filmed and produced the gardening video series "From the Ground Up." Judy became an expert on spiders and was often consulted to identify insects. Becoming a CoCoRaHS weather reporter was a recent addition to her repertoire.

The Sunlight Improvement District was organized through Judy's efforts, with help from neighbors she encouraged to participate. This included taking fire fighting training, and she helped to secure a fire truck for the district. She and her family designed and built their home before the district was formed.

She expressed her artistic and creative abilities in numerous hobbies such as leather and wood working, stained glass, lost wax bronze sculpture, and photography. She became an expert on every project she undertook and was elated when a recent interest in golf resulted in a hole-in-one.

A memorial celebration of Judy's life will be held in August. She requested, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to animal rescue of choice, the National Organization of Women Pilots, or the Master Gardeners Association.
