Joyce Conrad "JC" Boyd
1/29/27 - 10/4/22
JC Boyd arrived in Casper from Midland, Texas in the early 70's, when he transferred here with Gulf Oil/Chevron. He had a long career as a draftsman, until his retirement in 1985. JC was born in San Angelo, TX on 1/29/27. In 1945 at age 18, JC enlisted in the US Navy and served in WW II at Pearl Harbor and the Pacific. Following his honorable discharge as Seaman 1st Class in 1947, JC studied at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, TX. One of his fondest recollections of his days at Sul Ross was being a member of the cheer teem on the football sidelines. JC was also a lifelong golfer, enjoyed gardening and singing and collected coins and stamps. Participating in the Wildcatters Golf Tournament was something he looked forward to every summer. If he wasn't outside puttering around, you could find him in his little shop carving critters or cars or small figures. He loved working with wood!
JC married Lois Leik on March 4, 1976, and the two of them had over four decades of great adventures and numerous travels abroad. They had many friends who traveled the US in groups in their RVs. They also enjoyed parking their RV at the Casper Boat Club in the summer months when their grandchildren would visit and spend nights at the lake with them.
JC was an amazing grandfather and enjoyed watching grandsons Brian and Brendan King play local youth baseball and basketball and later JC golfed with Brian. If JC were visiting Lois' son, Mark, or daughter, Karen, and their families, he made sure to attend any grandchild's sporting event and cheer louder than anyone else. He also loved the WY Cowboys, the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos, whom he watched in person until it was no longer possible and then never missed a game on the TV or radio in later years.
Many in Casper know JC from his decades of singing with the Meadowlarks and the Oil City Slickers Barbershop Quartet. Nobody could carry a tune as beautifully as JC. He was a Mason and member of the Scottish Rite while living in El Paso, TX. He transferred to the WY Lodge when he moved here and in 2019 was honored for his many years of service. JC was also an active member of the Casper Shrine Club where he served as past President and played in the Shrine Oriental Band. The Casper Elks Lodge counted JC as a valued member of their organization for over 50 years and at his passing was their oldest "old-timer"! JC and Lois seldom missed Wednesday and Friday nights at the elks! JC was also a member of the WY Geological Assn. (WGA)
A man of great faith, JC was active in the Episcopal Church and served on the Vestry of St. Mark's Church, ushered and hosted coffee hour with Lois. JC and Lois were members of the Casper Petroleum Club and Casper Boat Club.
JC enjoyed life's many simple pleasures and was always quick to offer kindness or a corny joke with his many friends. He truly never met a stranger. Every Christmas morning we could always count on his wearing his flashing red nose! He never missed giving Lois and Cindy a corsage on their birthdays or Mother's Day. The sweetest heart
ever. We will all miss JC so very much, but he left us with many wonderful memories!
JC is survived by his loving wife Lois Boyd, his sister Bonda Gail Griffin, stepbrother Denny McQuade and stepdaughters Cindy King (Jim), Karen Kerns (Jeff) and Sharon Ann Ayers Stepp, in addition to grandchildren Nick (Clara), Ian (Susan) and Alex Leik, Brian and Brendan King, Jackie and Connor Kerns and Allison Kerns Fikse (Jake) as well as two great grandchildren, Riley and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Theodore Mark Leik, in June.
JC will be honored with a full Masonic funeral and military honors at his service on 10/16/22 at 2:30 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, located at 701 S. Wolcott. Please feel free to wear your favorite, Rockies, Bronco or WY shirt or jersey!
A reception will follow his service. Everyone who knew JC has a "JC story" and the family hopes you will share your JC stories with us at that time.
The family would like to sincerely thank Hospice for their loving care of JC in his final days on this earth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider a donation in JC's honor to the Shriner's Children's Hospital-LoveShriners (1275 E.
