Joseph Allen Dennis was born in Newcastle, Wyoming on May 18, 1923. Joseph was the only child of William C. Dennis and Vernice C. (Scott) Dennis. His roots run deep in Wyoming. His mother's family were homestead ranchers and she was a graduate of the University of Wyoming. His father was from Hot Springs, South Dakota. His father joined the cavalry and fought in WWI where he was wounded. Upon returning to the states after WWI, he homesteaded a ranch in the Newcastle area of Wyoming. Joseph's parents met at a barn dance and moved onto his father's ranch after marriage where Joseph was raised.
Joseph is a WWII Purple Heart veteran. He was Chief on a landing craft in the Navy and was wounded in the Leyte Gulf battle. The Leyte Gulf battle is still considered the worst battle in naval history. After WWII, Joseph met his future wife while attending school in Kansas City, Missouri. He married Mildred B. Butkovich on June 19, 1947. He and his bride moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1948 where he worked as a plumber for various plumbing companies. He was the foreman for Kistler Plumbing & Heating prior to going out on his own as a commercial contractor until his retirement in 1983.
Joseph was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He loved his horses and would pack into the mountains on horseback and just go camping. He also enjoyed camping, boating and fishing at Wyoming's lakes.
Joseph is survived by his three children, a daughter Jean and two sons, Joseph, Jr. And Ray. He is also survived by many grand and great-grandchildren.
