Joe C. Murphy passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at the age of 73. Joe was born in Tulsa, OK, to J.M. (Red) and Dorothy Evelyn (Hildebrand) Murphy.
He is survived by his wife, Kandy, after 52 years of marriage, 2 sons, J.D. (Stacy) Murphy and Todd (Denise) Murphy, his sister Mary Murphy, his grandchildren Mariah and Christian Murphy, and many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He moved to Casper, WY when he was 3 years old, where he graduated from NCHS in 1958. Joe served as a Navy Corpsman, attached to the Marines, from 1958-61 in Okinawa. Joe spent his career mainly in oilfield sales, working for other companies, and family businesses such as Murphy Sales Co. and Murphy & Co. Joe served his church in many ways, as an usher, greeter, and cook for special occasions.
He loved to read, especially Louis L'Amour, Civil War, and the Bible, and cooking, even creating and selling "Uncle Joe's Barbecue Sauce". He liked Western music and The Gaithers Christian music. More than anything else, he loved spending time with his family, especially sharing his dry sense of humor.
Even with poor health, he treasured that his relationship with the Lord was strengthened through his later years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association and the Wounded Warriors' Project.
Funeral services will be held February 17, 2014, at 10a.m. at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery.
