Jon F. Wing, 69 of Natrona, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. He was born November 26, 1945 in Hot Springs, SD to Everett and Virginia Wing. After the family relocated a few times following his father's oil field career, they settled in Casper in 1958 where Jon attended East Junior High and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1964. During high school, Jon's first job was a carry-out for Albertsons and advanced to a butcher, a skill he used his entire life. He married his Junior High/High School sweetheart, Joan Potter August 14, 1965. He then went on to attend and graduate from the University of Wyoming. Together Jon and Joan had two children, Brenda and Brian. Jon started his career at the Sale Barn in Riverton and worked there for 5 years, then in 1975 the family moved to the ranch south of Natrona. To support his ranching habit, he also was a truck driver for Lindsay and Sons and Mel's Water Service. He was also co-owner of A & J Equipment with Arlo See that mined bentonite on the ranch and surrounding areas until his retirement in 2008. He retired so that he was able to return to full time ranching. Jon was an avid golfer and enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren the sport. Jon also liked spending time with his friends golfing and camping. He made several trips to Alaska to fish for halibut, and he also enjoyed hunting with his kids and grandkids either on the ranch or in the Big Horns. He logged many hours on his four-wheeler moving and checking cows. Jon will always be remembered for his sense of humor and quick wit; he never met a stranger just a new friend and looked forward to hosting cookouts. Many of his friends considered him the "go to" guy who always seemed to know the answer to any of life's challenges. Jon could always be found on the porch or at the grill enjoying his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joan Wing; children, Brenda (Tom) Janikowski and Brian (Lory) Wing; grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Clark, Kelsey (Andy) Sherfey, Josie Janikowski, Zoe Janikowski, Jonah Wing, Jarett Wing, and Virginia Wing; great grandsons, Tucker Clark, Landon Self, and Caden Janikowski; brothers, Sam Wing and Robin Wing; sister, Beth (Jim) Moore; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jon is preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Virginia Wing; in laws, Jon and Evelyn Cummings; and grandson, Cody Janikowski.
A Memorial Service will be 1:00 PM, Monday, November 9, 2015, at Paradise Valley Christian Church with Pastor Larry Berlin officiating. Inurnment will take place at Highland Cemetery with a reception to follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions in Jon's name.
