John W Mutch, Jr, 72, passed away September 6, 2014 at Central Wyoming Hospice from complications of cancer treatments. At his request there will be no funeral services.
He was born January 25, 1942 to John W and Margaret (Wright) Mutch in Murray, Utah. He grew up in the Murray area and graduated from Murray High School. One of his proudest achievements was becoming an Eagle Scout at age 13. He worked for the original Kentucky Fried Chicken in Murray and later owned a KFC in San Jose, CA. Owned his own barber shop for 6 years. Worked at the Utah State Prison as a guard for many years. Self-employed as a housepainter for most of his adult life.
Married Kate on August 31, 1984 and delighted in making her blush by introducing her as the love of his life. He was her biggest champion and cheerleader, throwing all of his support behind her. During their marriage they lived in Utah, Colorado, Kansas and ended up in Casper, WY. John loved being a family man and his greatest treasures were his 7 children and their families. John was not looking forward to the empty nest that was coming with his youngest leaving home last spring. He loved caring for, teaching, inspiring, teasing, and cooking for his children and to the very end his face would light up when talking about any and all of them.
John loved fishing, camping and hunting and if he could get to a gaming table several games of roulette could make him grin. In his later years nothing could beat an afternoon of watching football- especially if the Broncos were playing. John was a warm-hearted, loving man with a wicked sense of humor. He delighted in things like wearing fake glasses and a mustache disguise to spy on his children on a date. John battled a decades long addiction to alcohol and found the desire to give it up in 2010. He faced his cancer diagnosis and treatments with a courage and strength that amazed his family.
