John Russell LeBrun, 72, passed away peacefully in Casper on October 30, 2020 from a lengthy illness. His only child, Patrick LeBrun, was by his side.
Born January 3, 1948 in Billings, Montana, John was the first-born son of Julian and Lila LeBrun (nee Oliphant), and was among the many babies born after husbands returned from WWII deployment.
John grew up on his parents' five-acre land on Garden Avenue, on the Billings south side, with his brothers Steve and Wade, and little sister Julie. The family's garden was immense and with it, they supplemented their income.
John graduated from Billings West High School in 1966. He sampled college, but opted instead for the military, beginning at Camp Pendleton. John successfully completed Marine active duty.
Post-military, John returned to Billings, then moved soon after to Casper, where his high school friend Dean Luptak had moved in their youth. Except for brief hiatuses elsewhere, John made his life's home in Casper.
There John was introduced to his neighbor Jeanne Larsen, whose fondness for him is apparent in her decision to marry him even after he wrecked her Corvair. Jeanne mothered John's only son and managed a construction company with him. The business was a success - building about 50 homes and several apartments in the Casper area - until a minerals bust stifled Wyoming enterprise. The pair divorced in the early 1980s.
In the middle of that decade, John earned a college degree in engineering - one that would be supplanted by his burgeoning skill with selling cars. John spent his remaining years working as a car salesman, ultimately finding his professional haven at Honda of Casper.
He was preceded in death by his father Julian, who died in 1985, his mother Lila, 2002; and his younger brother Steve, 2004. John is survived by his son Patrick, grandson Aiden, daughter-in-law Rebecca, younger brother Wade, and little sister Julie Bender.
No services are planned.
In the spring, John's loved ones will spread his ashes on a Montana landscape that was dear to him in life.
