John H. Lawyer

John H. Lawyer was born in Wheatland, WY on November 7, 1931 to John F. Lawyer and Laura Leona Busler. He passed away on September 5, 2016 at Life Care Center in Casper, Wyoming.

Service will be September 13, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery with Pastor Chris Kinner officiating. Interment will be at the family plot at the Old Fort Laramie Cemetery in Fort Laramie, Wyoming.

John proudly served his country during the Korean War.

On June19, 1954 John was united in marriage to Ramel Sorensen at the First Baptist Church in Torrington, Wyoming.

John worked for the Town of Wheatland as an apprentice lineman with his father, (he also helped his father wire houses) from there he went to the City of Laramie as a journeyman lineman. He then moved to Rocky Ford, Colorado working for Southern Colorado Power Company as a lineman. In 1969 he returned to his beloved Wyoming in Casper working first for the Bureau of Reclamation then moving to Western Area Power Administration working there until his retirement in May of 1992. In his retirement John and Ramel enjoyed traveling with his sister Recille and her husband Gene Crosby.

He was a member of the IBEW union for 60 years and a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge and VFW.
Through out his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating (taking his children water skiing), woodworking and tinkering. On his many travels he enjoyed touring power plants and dams.

Survivors include his wife, Ramel; daughter, Korine Ellis; daughter-in-law, Becky Lawyer; grandchildren, D.J. (Nikki) Lawyer, Sonya (Chad) Waldron, Ryan (Landas) Lawyer and Karlie Ellis and great grand daughter Kaiya and Sloan Waldron all of Casper; sister, Peggy Akin of Aumsville, OR; brother-in-law, Gene Crosby of Rainier, WA; numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful dog, Bear.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Delbert; sisters, Mildred and Recille; father-in-law Niels Sorensen and his son, Elden.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Celebrate Recovery at Highland Park Community church at 5725 Highland Drive, Casper, Wyoming.
