John McMurtry Garbutt, 49 of Casper, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at his home in Casper, Wyoming.
He was born in Casper November 12, 1965 to Irving and Edna Garbutt and was the youngest in a family of 10 children. He attended Grant, Fairdale and Jefferson grade schools, East Junior High and Kelly Walsh High School, graduating with the Class of 1986.
While growing up, he was active in the YMCA swim team and won several ribbons in swim meets at Rawlins, Riverton, Billings and Scottsbluff.
He showed an aptitude for art work and often amused his friends with pen, pencil and crayon sketches of birds, animals and people drawn with a lively imagination
From the time he could walk, he accompanied family members on hunting and fishing trips all over Wyoming. He was especially fond of fishing Miracle Mile and other reaches of the North Platte River and often brought in sizeable catches. His record was a seven pound brown trout. He also hunted for blue grouse and sage grouse in season, deer and antelope, and other game.
After graduation from high school, John found the job market overloaded in Casper's shrinking economy, but he managed to find employment at higher than average pay in the construction industry.
John also helped his parents in yard work and farm and construction jobs at the family farm on the North side of the river 13 miles east of Casper. He often had a line in the Platte at this point and landed trout.
John was predeceased by his parents; two brothers and one sister.
He is survived by Buellah (Tom) Bishop of Atlantic City, WY; Ida Nicholson (Frank) Cooksey of Brandon, MS; Larry (Susie) Nicholson of Evansville; Lucy (Fred) Milham of Casper; Ray (Bonnie) Garbutt of Johns, MS; Leo (Valeta) Garbutt of Evansville; as well as several aunts and uncles and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews
