John F. Freeman, 65, passed
away Thursday, September 8,
2011 at Presbyterian St. Luke's
Hospital in Denver, CO with his
wife Barbara at his side.
John was born August 4th,
1946 in Riverton, WY to John
H. and Olga (Peil) Freeman. John went to 21 different
schools throughout Wyoming and Colorado, due to his
father's work of road construction and in the oil field
industry. Soon after graduating from Kaycee High
School in Kaycee, WY (May 1965), John was drafted
into the United States Army.
During his Army career of 26 years, he served in
the Vietnam War, and Operation
Desert Storm; he also spent 13 years
in Germany, time in Korea, along with
several stateside assignments, one which lead him to
Hutchinson, KS to serve as the Senior Enlisted Army
Advisor to the Kansas Army National Guard where
he met the love of his life, Barbara Boyd, whom he
married in August 1985. After retiring from the Army,
John went to work for Wal-Mart where he held several
different management positions during his 19 years of
employment.
John and Barbara have raised two daughters, Amber
and Lindsay whose activities were always a big part of
his life, along with the friends that came along during
those times.
John's passions included: photography, traveling, and
Wyoming; he loved his home state and saw new beauty
in it every day, especially this last year and a half during
his valiant fight with leukemia which he did win, thanks
to an unrelated donor of stem cells. Unfortunately, John
developed a second cancer caused by cancer treatment,
along with other complications which lead to his death.
John is survived by his wife Barbara of 26 years,
daughters: Amber of Battle Ground, WA and Lindsay of
Laramie, WY as well as several cousins and other family
members that were reconnected through his illness.
John is preceded in death by his parents and only
sister, Vivian Roberts.
