CASPER -- Services for John Corbett, 81, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007, at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville with Rev. Thomas Cross of Christ United Methodist Church officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the United Veterans Council.
He died April 22, 2007, at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center.
He was born Dec. 8, 1925, in Chadron, Neb., the son of Lloyd H. Corbett and Fay Ferrier.
He and his family moved to Hot Springs, S.D., in the early 1930s. He graduated from high school and went into the U.S. Marines. After getting discharged from the Marines he married Ann Antelman, Feb. 14, 1947.
He learned his trade as a printer in the Hot Springs newspaper. They moved to Madison, S.D., and he went to work for the Madison Daily Leader. He joined the South Dakota National Guard, where he became a top sharpshooter with many awards.
He and his family moved to Casper in 1962 where he worked for the Casper Star-Tribune. He also was a parts manager for CMI-TECO until he retired.
He was an avid bowler and loved to fish.
Survivors include his wife of Casper, two daughters, JoEllen Asmus and Gina Bower, both of Casper; a brother, Bob Corbett, Ketchikan, Alaska; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren with one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
