John L. Colvin
Graveside services for John L. Colvin, 82, of Casper will be Wednesday, 07-19-2006, 10:00 a.m. at Highland Cemetery. Officiating will be Bill Porter his son-in-law. He died 07-He died July 15, 2006 surrounded by his family.
He was born 05-30-1924 in Ulman, Missouri to Leander and Addie Curry (Williams) Colvin. The youngest of seven children, he was raised in the Redfield, Kansas area, and graduated from Ft. Scott High School.
John met his future wife, Leora Tanner, on a school bus going to a football game. The married October 29, 1943. They had two daughters, Sandra and Connie.
He served in the United States Army during WWII from April 1945 until September 1946. He served in the occupation of Japan. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Army, he attended college earning his lineotype certificate.
He began his career at the Peoples Herald in Lynden, Kansas. In 1963 he moved his family to Riverton, Wyoming where he took a job at the Riverton Ranger Working there for 25 years.
While living in Lynden, John served as President of the City Council, the Lions' Club, and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed horses, bowling, fishing, camping, reading, and playing a friendly game of poker with family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Porter, and son-in-law, Bill, of Casper; one sister: Eileen Jackson of Ft. Scott, Kansas; four grandchildren, Lori, Jon, Robert, and Tim Porter of Casper; and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter Connie Colvin, his parents, four brothers, and one sister.
