John Bernard Strong

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for John B. Strong, 84, on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Gary Ruzicka officiating. Vigil of the Deceased will be recited on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial in Worland will be at a later date.

He died August 25, 2013 at Wyoming Medical Center.

John was born on November 7, 1928 in La Junta, Colorado; he was the son of John Elmer and Katherine (Voelker) Strong. He grew up in Swink, Colorado and graduated from Swink High School in 1946. He attended Denver University on a scholarship and later enlisted in the United States Navy. He spent 4 years in the Navy, 27 months of which were in Quam where he was a teacher for the United States Armed Forces Institute and was discharged as Yeoman 2nd Class.

Upon discharge in June 1952, he worked for a time as a station agent for Pure Oil Company (later Union Oil Company of California.)
On February 12, 1954 he married Catharine Ann Willard of Worland, Wyoming. They were the parents of three children.

He was transferred to Cortez, Colorado, in the Four Corners area, as Chief Clerk and later to Moab, Utah. In August of 1963 he was transferred to Casper. After 25 years he left Union Oil and went to work for American Quasar Petroleum. He later worked for Fenix and Scisson as the purchasing agent and later worked for numerous oil field companies. He enjoyed refinishing furniture after he retired.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church; served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board for many years; was an active member of the Good Sam's Club, was a member of Mended Hearts; Oregon-California Trail Association; and Natrona County Historical Society.

Music was one of his enjoyments. He studied piano and organ from many years; studying under Storm Bull at the University of Colorado and in later years with Janet Ahlquist at Casper College.

He is survived by his wife of 55+ years, two daughters, Ella (John) Lopez of Chugwater, Wyoming; Mary (Ron) Lee of Bloomsbury, New Jersey; son John (Carole) Strong of Casper; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Geraldine (Geri) Culp Jacobson, and one granddaughter
