Joe Jackson died on May 15, 2014, surrounded by his family after a short illness. He was born on January 12, 1936, to Mark and Lucille Jackson at the family home in Hanna, Wyoming.
Joe was educated in the Hanna public schools, excelling in music as well as athletics, especially track. Joe was a hurdler in high school, holding the Hanna High School and Wyoming state record in the 110 yard high hurdles.
Joe started playing the drums in his dad's dance band starting at the age of 13. He continued to entertain people with his music throughout school and college in his father's band, and later in his own band. He was so happy to earn $10.00 for a Saturday nights work! He played until he was 74 years old.
After graduating high school in 1954, Joe went on to the University of Wyoming where he continued to run the hurdles and was a member of the band. While attending University, Joe met Margaret Hays and they were married in 1958. Joe began his teaching career in Saratoga, Wyoming. Joe and Margaret moved to Glenrock in 1962. Joe continued to teach band and choir in the Glenrock schools until his retirement in 1991, after 33 years of teaching.
Joe loved working on cars, hunting, fishing, and camping. The joy of his life was following his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in all of their activities. He loved nothing more than being a proud supporter of them, as well as the Glenrock Herders.
Surviving Joe is his wife of 56 years, Margaret, sons Steve (Arlene) of Glenrock, Joe, Jr. (Sharon) of Rye, CO, Don (Laural) of Delta Junction, AK, and daughter Linda Hostert of Idaho Falls, ID. He leaves behind eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren (with another coming in August), and nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to the Glenrock High School Music Department, P.O. Box 1300, Glenrock, WY 82637.
