Funeral services for Joe Fermin Gold, 85, will be held at 2:00p.m. Monday April 16, 2007 at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery with Margi Gold officiating.
He died April 11, 2007 at the Wyoming Medical Center.
Joe was born March 14, 1922 in Costilla, New Mexico, the son of Jose Guillermo Gold and Domitilla Archuleta.
He grew up in New Mexico until the family moved to a ranch and homestead at Skunk Creek near Douglas in 1925. In 1939 he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) near Cody, WY doing forestry work.
In 1942 he was drafted into World War II. In 1944 he served and fought in north Africa and northern Italy where he was injured and received a purple heart.
In 1948 he married Elsa DeHererra of Costilla, NM. Joe worked for CB&Q Railroad (now known as Burlington Northern/Santa Fe) from 1947 until 1966 in Casper, he then relocated to Idaho Falls, ID for 20 years. In 1997 he moved back to Douglas, WY and enjoyed his time with friends and family; especially his grandsons Paul and Michael Jiménez and great-grandchildren Adrian, Marcus, and Hallie Jiménez. He fell ill the summer of 2006 and moved back to Casper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Feliz Gold and wife Elsa. He is survived by his brother, J. Archie Gold of Escondido, CA; daughter, Linda Jimenez of Casper; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
