Joann "Chesbro" Sorenson
Joann Sorenson, 80 and a long time Casper resident, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2012 at Wyoming Medical Center.
Born Margaret Joann Chesbro on December 18, 1931, in Denver, CO to Wallace G. and Eathel (Stevens) Chesbro (aka Chesebro) She moved to Casper at the age of 5 after her mother died of Pneumonia. She attended schools in Casper and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1949. She obtained a BA degree from Casper College and attended the University of Wyoming.
Joann worked for many years as a secretary in the oil industry in Casper, Billings, MT, and Hawaii. After living in Hawaii for 2 years, she came back to Casper. She met and then married Scott Allan Sorenson on February 4, 1961, and was lucky to be with her soul mate for 51 years. They were blessed with one daughter Michelle Frances in 1972. Joann was an active horsewoman prior to her marriage and enjoyed riding with the Round-Up club.
She was an active member for many years in Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the Desk and Derrick Club. She was a Delta Delta Delta at the University of Wyoming, and held several offices in her P.E.O. Chapter Y. She volunteered for more than 25 years at the Wyoming Medical Center Auxiliary and was a very familiar face in the gift shop. She was a Deacon and Church school teacher as well as an active choir member at First Presbyterian Church. She volunteered often at the Casper Humane Society. She enjoyed singing, playing piano, boating, hiking, walking, golfing, doing volunteer work, and spending time with her beloved grand blessings.
Joann was a remarkable person and will be remembered for her caring and giving spirit, and her happy and sunny disposition. She dearly loved her family and friends and she was a blessing to all that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and one nephew.
She is survived by her loving husband Scott, her daughter Michelle Frances (DeVore), son-in-law Sean DeVore, and her grand blessings Dakota, and Darion (DeArmon) all of Casper, her brother Wally (and wife, Bonnie) Chesbro of Laramie, WY, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
A private burial has been planned for Tuesday October 16, 2012 at the Oregon Trail Veterans cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 20, 2012 at 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church in Casper. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Casper Humane Society.
