Jeanne E. Oehlman, 61, died at home Friday, May 17th, surrounded by loving family and friends. She was born in Valparaiso, IN on October 26, 1951 to parents Leslie and Ruth Marge Oehlman. Jeanne played professional basketball while in high school and graduated in 1969 in Kouts, IN. She went on the road playing over 200 games per year with the Texas Cowgirls and the All American Red Heads until 1973 when she moved to Casper, WY to play the banjo at Shakee's Pizza Parlor. She later worked for Pacific Power, went to nursing school and became a successful long term care RN. Jeanne found her calling in psychiatric nursing at Central Wyoming Counseling Center and loved her co-workers and patients like family.
Jeanne is survived by partner Judie, mother Ruth Marge, nephews Zack and Zeb, and niece Ali. She loved hunting with friends Steve and Kathleen, and fishing while floating the Platte River with Judie. Jeanne also loved traveling to see the grandkids and favorite places, and cooking for family and friends. A special source of pride was when Jeanne and the other Red Heads were inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on September 7, 2012.
Viewing will be at Newcomer Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 21st from 5 to 7pm. Services with be held at the First United Methodist Church Wednesday, May 22nd at 10am, followed by burial at Highland Cemetery.
