Jean Ray, 88, died Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Shepherd of the Valley in Casper, Wyoming.
Jean was born on June 1, 1933 in Skellytown, Texas to Elmer E. Hewett and Flossie M. Howell. Jean attended school in various Texas towns as her family moved following her father's work with Gulf Oil Company.
In 1945, the family moved to Pampa, Texas, where Jean met her future husband, Troy H. Ray, whom she married on December 24, 1948. After moving to Casper, Wyoming, the couple went on to have their four children: Cathy Jean, Troy, Jr., Laura, and Daniel T. Jean and Troy were married for 51 years before his death in 1999.
Jean worked at various motels in the Casper area for many years. She often mentioned getting to meet John Wayne and being invited to the set of the Hell Fighter's movie being filmed west of Casper. Eventually, she moved on to work at Wyoming Stationary as a Credit Manager where she worked for many years before retiring.
Jean and her late husband delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years, having been awarded a pin for 25+ years of service to the organization. Jean belonged to the Casper Rebekah Lodge, having held many offices within the group, both locally and within the Wyoming District.
Jean is survived by her sister, Sandra Lambright of Pampa, Texas; her children, Laura Foster of Ocean View, Hawaii, Troy H. Jr. (Dorothy) and Daniel (Ramona) of Casper, Wyoming; along with 6 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was preceded in death by her daughter, Cathy J. Ray; brothers, Sammy North, Sonny Ray Hewett, and Don North; and son-in-law, Bob Foster.
