Janet was born on February 2, 1960 in Los Angeles to Shigeto and Kathleen Kawakami. She died on September 20, 2014 in a plane crash with her long-time boyfriend, Kenneth Lance Schneider, near the Saratoga, Wyoming airport.
Janet was an avid learner. Whether she was in a compulsory setting like a classroom, a self-motivated setting like the internet or a library, or first-hand by talking to people of experience and interest, Janet strived to be well-versed in many disciplines. After high school, she went to Denmark for one year as an exchange student, earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry from San Diego State University, and held numerous certifications in health- and sports-related fields.
Janet and Kenny spent the last few years building their home in Casper. They were avid rock climbers, hikers, campers, and divers. As such, they spent many happy years in mountains and deserts, and at sea.
Janet had dear friends in many states and in several countries who valued her tireless support, intelligent debate, and humorous wit. As a family member, she was the ultimate peace-keeper, historian, and creative story-teller. Janet is survived by her sister, Karen, and brother, Marc.
Memorial services for the couple will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, September 29, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home Chapel. Kenny's brother, Lon, will officiate. The Schneider family will receive guests on their Casper mountain property following the services.
