SIDNEY, Neb. -- A memorial service for Jane Eulalie Gates Beran, 76, will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Sidney, Neb.
She died July 10, 2007 peacefully in her sleep after a brief and valiant fight with cancer.
She was born on June 12, 1931, in Ord, Neb., to Earl M. and Adelyn Mason Gates. Her childhood was spent with her two sisters, working and playing on the farm in the Springdale area, east of Ord.
The family moved to a farm near Arcadia, Neb., in 1944. After graduating from Arcadia High School in 1949, she pursued an education at Kearney College and the University of Omaha.
In 1955, she married Donald J. Beran of Ord. They had one son, Douglas John Beran.
Her teaching career touched the lives of many children in Minnesota, South Dakota, and mostly in her home state of Nebraska. She resided in Sidney, Neb., for 33 years. There she worked for the Sidney Telegraph, and taught at Dalton, Brownson, Sidney St. Patrick's and in the Sidney Public School System, and later worked for the Educational Service Unit in Sidney.
An avid gardener, she was responsible for initiating the Living Memorial Gardens in Legion Park. She was also an accomplished artist and member of the Cheyenne County Art Guild.
After retiring, she moved to Casper to be closer to family. Her passions included gardening, reading, painting, and Husker football; but her greatest passion was enriching the lives of her two beloved grandchildren.
She leaves behind her precious family, her son, Douglas Beran and his wife; her two grandchildren and loves of her life, all of Casper; two sisters, Shirley Lybarger of Kerrville, Texas and Marion Sell of Bellevue, Neb., and numerous other friends and family members.
