James E. 'Bud' Smith

EVANSVILLE -- A celebration of life for James E. "Bud" Smith, 73, was held yesterday at Evansville Baptist Church, with Pastor Jack R. Weaver officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Grove, Mont., at a later date to be announced.
He died July 10, 2007, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper following a brief illness. He was a former resident of Forest Grove, Mont., and Lusk.
He was born November 1, 1933, East of Forest Grove, Mont., to Robert P. and Mattie (Apple) Smith. He attended Dryland and Becket grade schools and graduated from Grass Range High School in 1952.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Panama Canal Zone during the Korean War. Following an Honorable discharge, he worked at the U.S. Gypsum Plant at Heath, Mont. In 1956 he began his career in the oilfields at Tioga, N.D. He worked as a driller in Northeastern Wyoming for most of his adult life.
On April 1, 1958, he married Oralee Vondra.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years; a son, Jess; a stepson, KC Vondra; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one brother, Robert Smith and his wife of Forest Grove, Mont.; one sister, Shirley Hughes and her husband of Grass Range, Mont., a brother in law, Harold Trapp and his wife of Lewistown, Mont.; and a sister in law, Patty Lou Smith of Lewistown, Mont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Smith; a sister, Loralee Trapp; and a stepson, JB Vondra.
Memorials to Treasured Memories Hospice Care in Moorcroft will be appreciated.
