"Jim" Hoppe was born in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Rose Hoppe. He was the youngest of four sons.
After attending high school in Chicago, he was recruited to play baseball at the University of Wyoming. He was a member of the 1956 team, the only University of Wyoming baseball team to go to the College World Series. He holds the College World Series home run record for the University of Wyoming, and was inducted as a member of the team into the Universities' Athletic Hall of Fame.
While attending college he met Roberta JoAnn Jansen. They were married May 30th, 1958.
He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education, and later earned a Masters degree in Education Administration.
He was recruited out of college by the Chicago White Sox and played on their farm team for a summer. He returned to Casper where he taught physical education for many years before becoming the principal at Mountain View Elementary School, and later Willard Elementary school.
He was the father of Rosemarie Ham (Don), of Jamestown, NC; Michael Hoppe, of Woodinville WA; Daniel Hoppe (Sandra), of Casper; Steven Hoppe (Anjie), of Edmond OK; and Christopher Hoppe (Carla), of Mill Creek, WA.
His eleven granddaughters are: Hilary, Kelly, Nicole, Brianne, Cheyenne, Danielle, Lauren, McKenna, Isabelle, Ava, and Parker.
He was the Great Grandfather of Leni, Dexter, and Colby.
He was much loved and will be missed.
