James Edwin Ennis

September 8, 1947 — September 23, 2012

A memorial service for James Edwin "Jim" Ennis, 65, will be held on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery.

Jim was born September 8, 1947 in Casper, Wyoming to James F. and Dorothy M. (Burnham) Ennis. He died suddenly at his home on September 23, 2012. Jim attended Casper College and the University of Wyoming and received a B.S. degree in Accounting in 1969. He worked as an oil and gas accountant. After college, he enlisted in the Army in 1969, attended Boot Camp at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and was part of the National Guard and attached to a JAG Corp until he was honorably discharged for service fulfillment as a Specialist Four USAR, in 1976.

His first job was in 1970 with True Oil Company in Casper, Wyoming. He then went to work for McCulloch Oil in 1972, and was transferred to Los Angeles, California. He worked there until 1974 and was then hired by Sohio Oil and was transferred to New York City, New York and lived in Manhattan. British Petroleum was merged with Sohio Oil while he was in New York and became employed by BP Alaska. He was then transferred by BP Alaska to San Francisco, California. He retired with BP Alaska and bought a ranch in Northern California outside of Sacramento and ran a pump company, from the ranch, working with Gorman Rupp. He was elected as the Director of the Loma Rica/Browns Valley Community Service District and also served as a volunteer for the Fire Department. He was an active member of the Lions Cub while in California. He was there until July 20, 1990, when he moved back to Casper to be with his High School Sweetheart. They were married on June 15, 1991, in Glenrock, Wyoming.

After returning to Casper, he became a licensed general contractor and was involved in building new construction and remodeling for commercial properties. When young, he and his family were among the original members of the Casper Water Ski Club at Alcova Lake. In his youth, he loved to water ski, snow ski and ride motorcycles.

He was an avid reader, loved politics and kept current on world events and financial markets. He was very me3vhanically talented, could fix anything and loved to tinker with old trucks. It was rare to see Jim without his dog Bear. Jim was a dear sweet soul known for his quick wit and wry sense of humor. He was a good friend and always there to help anyone in distress. We were blessed to have had him in our lives. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, step daughter, his family and his little dog Bear.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, his Father in 2003, and his Mother in 2009.

He is survived by his wife Jean, his stepdaughter Amber of Louisville, Kentucky, who is currently attending medical school in Dallas, Texas, his brother Dr. Steven Ennis of Ann Arbor, Michigan, his niece Georgia Ennis who is a Fulbright Scholar currently studying Linguistic Anthropology at the University of Michigan, and his Pomeranian dog and best friend, Smokey the Pooh Bear, a/k/a/ "Bear".
