James S. Cox

October 15, 1929 — October 20, 2017

James S. Cox: CASPER - A Memorial Gathering for James S. Cox, 88, will be held at the Yellowstone Garage on Thursday, November 2, from 3-7pm. All friends and colleagues are welcome. Graveside services will be performed for the Family on Thursday morning.

Jim was 88 when he passed on October 20, 2017 in Scottsdale, AZ. He was born on October 15, 1929 to Walter and Grace Cox in Memphis, TN. He was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he attended Central High School (now the Public Service Company of Oklahoma building). He enlisted in the US Army and served as an MP, Supply Sergeant, and Drill Sergeant in the Korean War.

He returned to Oklahoma and took a job with Lee C Moore selling drilling derricks in Mexico City and Odessa TX. He would later transfer to Casper WY and meet his wife, Norma, who worked for Western Airlines. They were married on January 24, 1958 and had 3 children who all attended school there. Jim partnered with Jim & Gladys Julian, who owned their new company, MPI Warehouse, and would later buy the company from them. That company spawned Engineered Equipment Inc, and both continue to prosper after 60+ in business.

Jim was active with the Casper Petroleum Club, The Shrine Club, Masonic Lodge and the Casper Boat Club. He was also the founding visionary of the Alcova Lake Fireworks Display – now in its 31st year.

Jim was an avid private pilot and flew frequently with Norma in the Mountain West, Canada and even the Caribbean. Their vacations were split between their cabin at Alcova and their home in Marathon, FL.

He is preceded in death by his parents, younger sister Rita, and older sister Frances (Dyer). He is survived by his 3 children, Sondra Jo (Bob) Hendy, Michael (Cheryl) and Patrick (Felicia) and his 7 grandchildren: Cara, Alex, Samantha, Ryan, Madeline, Julia and Cameron.

Memorial donations are welcome and appreciated – and can be sent to Meals on Wheels in Casper, 1760 E 12th Street, Casper, WY 82601-4005
